Program
The March speaker is Diane Vento, an active member of the Kiskiminetas Watershed Association. Diane has attended previous WSC meetings so her name may be familiar. Diane will be sharing a presentation titled “Watersheds: Understanding and Protecting our Water Resources.” Her presentation is packed with great information from resources available to determine the watershed in your area, the impairment level of local waterways, and details of the Penn State Master Watershed Steward Program. Diane is a member of the Kiskiminetas Watershed Association (KWA) which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the environmental education, recreation, and conservation & rehabilitation of the natural & historical resources of the Kiski River and its tributaries. A 100+ year history of abandoned mine drainage (AMD) left the river lifeless. Thanks to the efforts of the KWA and other like-minded environmental organizations, the Kiski has made a remarkable recovery. As the water quality has improved, aquatic life is rebounding with the presence of freshwater mussels, hellbender salamanders, and threatened fish species. If you are a kayaker or someone who appreciates the beauty of our rivers you will love this presentation and the improvements that Diane will describe. Watershed and Conservation authority.
Hope to "see" you all there.
